Project 1 Progress - Jess Simon

 PROJECT ONE PROGRESS UPDATES

Week 1: I made a simple storyboard. It is a six frame sketch of my animation idea. The first square shows a cat getting ready and brushing its teeth, meant to represent morning time. The second square will be a cat at a café grabbing coffee and a donut. The third scene will be a cat studying or going to work, being productive. The fourth frame shows a cat working out at the gym, lifting weights. The fifth drawing is of a cat out at a night club, having drinks with friends. And the final scene is the cat wrapping up its day and going to sleep. This animation is a simple "day in the life."

Week 2: I got started making the first scene using an Illustrator file. I spent my time finding characters, props, and a background. The first part of this animation starts in a bathroom so I found things like a shower, towel, water, toothpaste, toothbrush, and of course a cat. Selecting and cutting out the images took no time at all, but it was very challenging working with After Effects for the first time.

Week 3: This week I worked on and completed the second scene of my animation. This part is supposed to represent breakfast time/early morning. Two cats walk into a coffee shop, order coffee and donuts, consume them, and then go crazy because of the caffeine. I used the same working style as last week. I first searched for images on the internet, then cut them out using Photoshop, imported photos into an Illustrator document using many layers, and then transferring the completed document into After Effects. In this scene I was able to play more with movement, rotation, and scaling.

Week 4: This week I worked on the third scene of my animation. This part represents the afternoon as a time to work and study. This scene shows a cat in a library listening to music and then reading and writing. At the end the cat's brain grows in size to show that it has been productive and gained knowledge. I also included a screenshot of my layers to show how I have been color coding them and stacking them section by section. This organization technique has really worked for me.

Week 5: This week I completed my fourth scene of my animation. This part represents the afternoon/evening time. In this scene three cats are working out at the gym. One cat is running on the treadmill, one is using a barbell, and one is using a dumbbell. Again, I used After Effects to show movement, rotation, and scale. Each of my scenes have represented a different portion of the day and have all been 10 seconds long.
