Project 2 - Carmello Paccor
I only drew one page of my storyboard because I still wasn't sure what I wanted to do. What happens in the storyboard stays the same in the video, but the vantage points I used were different. I also couldn't get the character to move too much so the part where he gets out of the coffin is different.
My first try making the character went awful. I used wire for the structure but I didn't do it right so it was falling apart. The clay itself wouldn't stick to the structure either. I tried to make a tan color for the outside wrap to make it look dirty, but it ended up being too dark. I put that on the structure before realizing I wanted black to peek through the cracks so that was also a huge failure. I gave up on it after his feet fell off.
I made another structure using the armature kit, so it was a lot more sturdy but also could bend however I wanted it to.
I decided to make a rounder mummy so that I could make the body look more human-like. If I kept it lanky and skinny, then adding the clay would've been harder since I don't have any experience doing that. I used foil to bulk it up so that I didn't have to use so much clay too.
Then I started adding the clay under the wraps, so it didn't need to look perfect, just needed to cover the foil.
The body was still very uneven with the first layer of clay, but that was fine because the wrapping would cover it.
The wrapping part was my favorite because I made actual strips of white clay to wrap around it like real bandages. This helped fix the overall shape of the mummy too. Parts that were skinnier than the rest like the legs would start looking a lot better after wrapping them.
I finished my mummy! It looks a lot better than the first one and actually moves a bit. Not too much because of how bulky he is, but enough for what I wanted to do.
My set was just a piece of cardboard I cut out from a cereal box with construction paper hot-glued to it. I made the cracks on the wall pink instead of black so that the walls could be black instead. It makes it look more cave-like. I couldn't use purple because that was the only color I had for the bugs I made later. The coffin was made with cardboard as well.
I made two videos out of my pictures: the beginning and the ending. The middle part was going to be drawings I made in Illustrator put together as a collage animation. For the drawings, I took pictures of the mummy and bugs I made and traced them. I added a section of the song Walk Like An Egyptian by The Bangles to the collage animation so that it felt different from the other parts.
To finish it, I put all the videos together. The pictures were too small, so it has two bars around it because otherwise it would be too zoomed in. I didn't know how to fix this, but I didn't have enough time to figure it out.
